The program displays information about the System BIOS Configuration identification information about the IDE devices installed. SYSINFO.EXE can be obtained from the following: 1) Maxtor's World Wide Web site. Download the file named SYSDATA.EXE 2) Maxtor Utilities diskette (MUD), the uncompressed program is contained in the IDE directory. Extracting Files: ---------------- The SYSDATA.EXE file is a compressed file, and self extracting. Prior to extraction, Maxtor recommends that users copy SYSDATA.EXE to a blank, DOS (5.0 or higher) or Windows 95/98, formatted 3.5" floppy diskette. Insert the floppy disk containing SYSDATA.EXE in the appropriate floppy drive and establish operations at that drive's DOS prompt. At the command prompt, type "SYSDATA" and press the [Enter] key. At this point, three files will be extracted to the floppy disk: 1. SYSINFO.EXE - Maxtor's System Information Utility. 2. SYSINFO.TXT - This Technical Note. 3. SYSTEM.TXT - Text File provided to record system information. Running SYSINFO.EXE: ------------------- Note: SYSINFO.EXE MUST BE executed from the DOS or the Windows 95/98 command prompt. It will not run within MS-Windows 3.1, MS-Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows 95, Windows NT (all versions) or OS/2 environments. Procedure: 1. Clean Boot the computer. Insert the floppy diskette (either the Maxtor Utilities Diskette or the floppy diskette containing the extracted SYSDATA.EXE files) into the appropriate floppy disk drive. and establish operations at that drive's DOS prompt. Note: If the Maxtor Utilities Diskette is used, type "CD IDE" and press the [Enter] key. Otherwise proceed to step three. 2. Type "SYSINFO" and press the [Enter] key. Document all system configuration information in either: · Installation Sheet provided with the Maxtor hard drive · The SYSTEM.TXT file provided on the Maxtor Utilities Diskette or with the SYSDATA.EXE COMPRESSED File from Maxtor's On-line (WWW/FTP) services -OR- Maxtor Utilities Diskette (MUD). 5. Press the {Enter] key to exit the utility. This will return the computer back to the Command Prompt. SYSINFO.EXE is now complete. Maxtor recommends that users have all recorded information available when calling Maxtor Technical Assistance.
