Gordon's Hurd Page
This page is dedicated to the GNU Hurd operating system. Right now
it's quite simple, and under massive construction. All I want to do is
get some important information on the Web as soon as possible. When I
have more time (yeah, right), I'll start putting in links and
other snazzy stuff.
Until this document is more complete, I'll put a ** next
to unfinished pages, so you don't have to download a lot of garbage.
Disclaimer!
Speaking of garbage... in case it isn't already obvious, please take
everything that I've put in here with a grain of salt. These documents
were written by me, and represent my opinions only.
Sometimes, I may cite other sources, but I take responsibility for
any errors, omissions, or inaccuracies. I would appreciate it if you
would tell me how these
pages can be improved, because I want them to be accurate and complete!
Index
- A quick start to bootstrapping the
Hurd. It's becoming more obvious to me that not everybody wants
to compile the Hurd from scratch. So, this link will be updated with
all the latest Hurd developments, especially those that will allow
people to bootstrap the Hurd in the fastest way possible.
- How I bootstrapped the 950411 Hurd snapshot from
scratch. It took me about three weeks to compile it the first
time, so I hope this document will help other people do it in
much less time. The current world record is 2
days. Note: this method is not recommended anymore. It
is much easier just to install the Hurd binaries, then compile the
Hurd natively. See the above quick start guide - installing the
binaries took me 4 hours, and that was without any other
help.
- Links to other sources of information on
Mach, GNU and the Hurd.
