Viewing PDF Files
To view an HP Journal article, you need to have
the Acrobat Reader installed on your system. To open the PDF article, click on the highlighted article name (for
example, au98a.pdf). If your browser supports the PDF format, it should open the article directly. If your browser
does not support the PDF format, it should prompt you to save the file locally so that you can run Acrobat separately
to read the file.
You can navigate through the entire article and
click on the links at the end of the article to move to other articles. Some articles contain hyperlinks to other
Web sites on the Internet. You can also print articles on demand.
Saving Articles Locally
Acrobat files can be saved to your computer by placing
the mouse pointer over the link to the file and right-clicking. This will activate a pop-up window that has a "Save Target as . . ." function for the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser, or "Save Link as . . ."
for the Netscape browser.
Articles can then be launched by running the Acrobat
Reader program and opening the file.
Configuring Your Browser for Viewing
HP Journal Articles
If you have problems reading articles with the Acrobat
Reader, you can make some adjustments to your browser's settings to accommodate HP Journal articles.
Configure your browser to launch Acrobat Reader
in a separate window or to save your PDF files locally. This eliminates possible browser conflicts that may affect
page display.
Netscape 3X users only. Configure your browser to launch Acrobat separately instead of inside
the browser window:
- Open Options/General
Preferences.
- Go to Helpers tab.
- Find application/pdf
within the list.
- When application/pdf is highlighted, confirm that the area called actions
has launch the application checked.
Configuring the Acrobat Reader for
HP Journal Articles
The Acrobat Reader contains program preferences
that need to be modified to view articles effectively.
Greeked Text.
Acrobat Reader has a preference default to "greek"
(text areas are grayed). This may result in lost characters in equations or a substitution of a gray box or dots
within text. To eliminate this problem:
- From within Acrobat Reader, go to the main menu
and select File/Preferences/General.
- In the General Menu deselect the "Greek
Text Below [x] Pixels" box.
- Select OK.
Weblink Setup.
To define your weblink setup for Acrobat Reader:
- From within Acrobat Reader, go to the main menu
and select File/Preferences/Weblink.
- In the Weblink Menu, enter the file location of your WWW browser application
or click on the "Browse..." button to locate the file.
- Select the appropriate connection type from the
drop-down menu.
- Select OK.
