When I open an article, I get a blank
white screen or an "Errors on this page..." message.
This may occur if you launch the Acrobat file within
your browser window. You can avoid this problem if you configure your browser to launch the PDF file separately
in the Acrobat Reader.
See "Configuring your Browser for Viewing Acrobat articles"
If changing these preferences don't work, you will
need to save the article locally and run it directly in the Acrobat Reader. See "Saving Articles Locally"
for directions.
Some of the text is missing, there are
gray boxes or dots in place of text.
The problem may be in the preferences set up in
the Acrobat Reader. See "Configuring
the Acrobat Reader for HP Journal Articles "
for directions to correct this problem.
Special characters or equation elements
are missing or appear to be the wrong ones.
Although online articles closely approximate the
original hard copy article, PDF files occasionally drop characters in equations.
HP Journal articles contain very complex formatting
of text and special characters, as in equations. Occasionally the PDF format does not translate this special text
faithfully. If you are having trouble viewing equations, you may order printed copies of articles HERE.
When I click on a hyperlink inside
a PDF file, I get an error message.
Acrobat needs to know which Browser you are using
and where it is located on your computer. See "Configuring the Acrobat Reader for HP Journal Articles " for directions on correcting this problem.
The article takes a long time to
download, or the download is aborted before it is finished.
HP Journal articles range in file size from between
75 Kilobytes to as large as 3 Megabytes. Each PDF link on an article page lists the size of the file in parentheses.
Check to see if the article you are attempting to
download is large. Sometimes an ISP or your Internet settings on your computer may cut off a download in progress
if it exceeds a certain amount of time. You may want to contact your IT professional or ISP for help.
You may also try to download the file during off-peak
times when there is less Internet traffic (for example, in the early morning or evening).
